Business need
To make the shift management of Dayforce's native mobile app, WCAG 2.1 AA compliant.
Engagement & research
Refreshed my accessibility knowledge by completing the W3C's Introduction to web accessibility course
Read "Developing inclusive mobile" by Rob Whitaker.
Dedicated time to hands-on learning with iOS VoiceOver, practising navigation with my eyes closed.
Mapped both visual and screen reader experiences for the Dayforce mobile app, Apple Calendar app, and Google Calendar app.
Developed a test script and worked with a Fable accessibility consultant (unsighted) who provided valuable design inputs.
Validation processes
The Fable service included the opportunity to run useability tests with an unsighted user which I ran on multiple occasions iterating design between each session.
Tools & artefacts
Balsmiq mockups - to diagram flow concepts and information architecture approaches
Figma - to prototype the entire shift management experience in multiple view ports for both iOS and Android
Signoff
Project was on going when my contract with Dayforce ended
Lessons learnt
Multi-pane screen experiences are problematic for unsighted users
Having access to disabled users when designing for accessibility speeds up and increases the quality of products and services for inclusive audiences.
